fab looking garlic, not sure it’ll bulb up as it didn’t get a very cold spell after I put it in.
Sowing frenzy
(the correct use of a seed potato)
Just a list of what I sowed yesterday/today
- Ammi Majus. Bishops Flower
- Bupleurum Griffith
- Runner beans
- Ballotti beans
- Carrots
- Spring onions
- Leaks
- Purple sprouting broccoli
- Brussel sprouts
and a few other things that have germinated.
- Helianthus Sunflower Earthwalker
- Ricinus Impala
- Cerinthe Major Purpurascens
The cold frame is filling up nicely.
I also planted out 10(ish) broad bean plants. I’ll pop some seeds straight in in a week or so, hopefully we’ll have loads of beans (great on toast :). We had problems with black fly last year so I’ll need to keep an eye on them.
A sign of Spring
Rainy Romans
While we were visiting Burgh Castle it rained enough to fill our water butt… I had to empty it because it had sprung a leak… all hail the mighty super glue (you had better hold #shakesfist). It is fed from a 4.5m2 flat roof, so there must have been a lot of rain. The river down by the allotment was pretty high last night, so we are going to put another fish trap in to see what difference a fast flowing river makes.
Ricinus Impala
Fantastic looking Ricinus Impala seeds from Higgledy Garden, I planted these today, but got distracted so didn’t mange to get the rest in.

Sticklebacks
We have a river which runs through our allotment site, it usually dries up in the summer with only a few small pools left for any wildlife. We wanted to know if there were any fish in it so we built a fish trap out of a plastic bottle and some dried mango. Dried mango works brilliantly, we tried with just bread but we didn’t catch as many.
